London! Yay! First time in Europe. I feel so lucky that the weather here turned out to be pretty good after all the raining and flooding (well, some parts of UK is still flooding). We are having blue skies and white clouds here, the temperature is the best that you can ask for. Not too hot, not too cold. It's like virtual air-con. The best is that I get to sleep until 8am every morning (though my body clock wakes me up at 630...)
Fish and Chips...
I don't know why everyone talk about fish and chips when we talk about London. I only had my first fish and chips after 5 days here. It's not bad after all! the Fish is pretty big, but I don't like the soft and chunky fries, not crispy at all.
Lectures...
HAHAHAHAHAHA. I think I slept quite a fair bit in these lectures. Seriously speaking, some lectures are quite redundant here. For example, there was this lecture about bubbles (yea.. those that you blow when you are bathing) 90% of the time was dedicated to dip the shapes into the soap solution and show how bubbles are formed. pretty much like what a clown does. So you must be wondering, why would I stay up to listen? Even the person who gave the "word of thanks" was more exciting than the entire lecture. But of course, the australian girl who gave the "word of thanks" is a really good speaker, 100% gaveller. Well, there are lectures which are good and fun, such as the one on Chaos and Fractals. Think I shouldn't put too much technical jargon here, but that was the most interesting lecture I have had so far.
Waiting...
Gosh, I think organisers of this programme are seriously paranoid about people not being punctual for their events. They make us arrive at the venue of lectures half an hour earlier than the stipulated time. Sometimes, we don't wait indoors, but outside, where the chilly winds just blow across our face! Another funny thing is that they make the lecturer wait for everyone to quieten down before he/she begins. The converse happens in Singapore where everyone sits in the lecture theatre and wait for the arrival of the guest speakers. There are instances where we even stand up and clap while the speaker walks in. People here in UK have really funny mentality. We Singaporeans, are just as flexible and only choose to arrive at the venue 10 mins before time. It is totally crazy for us to wait outside and do nothing.
Youtube and Harry potter...
We do have some free time here. Since I've been quite "potty" recently, I went to Youtube to watch some interviews on the cast of HP and Order of Pheonix. Of course, we have the three main leads whom kind of grew up with the rest of us. Also watched the interview with Bonnie Wright and Evanna Lynch (Ginny and Luna). I think Bonnie Wright gotta to change something, if not, her role as Ginny is not doing any justice to Harry Potter. She is going to kiss Harry in the sixth movie!!!! The kiss with Cho Chang has created so many big ho-has. Can't imagine her's. I mean... (this is not being sissy) she is like... okay, shall not comment too much. Secondly, Evanna Lynch should just change her name to Luna Lovegood. Coz I don't think there is another person on Earth that will be as "dreamy" as her. The way she talks, the tone, the pitch, simply everything IS Luna, though she doesnt have the looks of really blur person. But I do like one thing she said about HP is that it is a story that takes us out of the world that we are living in and still about teenagers growing up. This is something which makes HP so successful after all these years. I don't think anyone can replicate such a global phenomenon again in the next century to come.
