I have decided to type this blog entry, while I’m on my flight to London. Think there is still another hour or so before we touch down on Heathrow provided if the weather is good enough.
Finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows about 5 hours before the flight. (This is partly due to “charm” of the book and partly due to the advice of Jiafang, so I don’t need to bring it with me to London. - Seems like I’m confounded.)
So after all the big ho-has, I guess the book did live up to its expectations. Or I should say, the last 100 pages or so of the book lived up to its expectations. Apparently, the first 300 pages was slightly boring, trying to fill up on the gap on what is going on after Dumbledore was killed. (Well, perhaps the term “killed” is not used appropriately. I guess those who read the book will know why). The “mood” of the book was melancholic, sad and hopeless as nothing seem to work out for Harry and the entire Order. In the middle, that’s where the REAL adventure started when Harry, Hermione and Ron embarked on their journey to destroy the Horcruxes. As for the ending, trying me best not to reveal too much here, well. … to me, it is justified. Just that a lot of explanations have got to be done as Dumbledore and Snape’s loyalty has created too many gaps in the entire story.
Sounds like a book critic here … Haha. I suppose we can all pick up something from the book. For example: we know people in Gryffindor are those who are courageous, brave, honorable and loyal. We read how much Harry trusted his friends (even if it is just based on his instincts!) and not to give up even when things are not happening to his favor. Sometimes, we really hope that magic exists. With magic, we can do things beyond our wildest imagination (even though there are still “scientific laws in magic”, according to what I read in Wikipedia!). What I see in this fictional magical world is that the relationship between people are much closer, bonds between friends are very strong. I guess it is partly because of the way which people grow up and the things that people do together. They don’t chat online via MSN! They don’t have smses. They communicate by writing letters (or maybe through fireplaces!), something which you will feel that it is more warmth, more real, closer to your heart. (This sounds a bit like the Chinese comprehension passages which we did to prepare of O’s last year) Perhaps this is what we lack in modern society eh? (Quoting from the GP compre passage) In such a fast paced world where people are so busy until they have hardly anytime to eat or sleep. Even hanging out with friends is a luxury! Reminds me of the last “class outing” in which only 7 people went. We hardly have anytime for ourselves, let alone to find time to hang out. It seems that Harry Potter is not only about magic, or the “good vs evil” theme, but also protraying other aspects which the “muggle” society lacks.
I can’t imagine how NJ would be like if it is like Hogwarts. HAHAHA! Imagine house points being deducted by Sharon Phua if girls get caught with low skirts or modified uniforms. Imagine if there is a hat which we wear and shouts “SOLARIS!”. Lol. Interesting…
Okay... I'm just being random here.
